The Book Club of the Ukrainian Diplomatic Spouses Association (UDSA)
cordially invites you to a guided tour of ROLIT, Kyiv’s historic residential building for writers, constructed in the 1930s.
This remarkable building was home to both renowned and lesser-known Ukrainian writers of the twentieth century. Within its walls, literary works that would become part of Ukraine’s cultural heritage were written, rivalries between competing authors unfolded, and dramatic personal stories played out against the backdrop of literary life.
The tour will begin with a guided walk around the building, led by Maryna Hrymych, followed by a visit to the apartment museum of the outstanding Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky. This is the only apartment in the building that has preserved the authentic interior of a Ukrainian intellectual household from the mid-twentieth century.
In Lyatoshynsky’s study, where masterpieces of Ukrainian musical modernism were composed at the grand piano, we will be welcomed by the co-founders of the Borys Lyatoshynsky Foundation: pianist Tetiana Homon, a descendant of the Lyatoshynsky family, and musicologist Iryna Tukova.
Iryna Tukova will continue the tour and present her book Through the Looking Glass of Borys Lyatoshynsky.
